Doreen's Award

Mrs Doreen Roberts, a lifelong sufferer of chest disease, who wanted to do something to repay the care she had received from Dr. John Prior at Standish Hospital, set up the Fund in 1991.  To date the Fund has raised, and mostly spent, £330,000.

Doreen sadly died in December 1999 but her dream continues.  Each year individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the charity are honoured with the award in Doreen's memory.

Some of its recent recipients are listed below;

The Trustees were pleased to present Mrs Julia Wintle for Coleford, F.O.D. with this award for 2008. Over the past 10 years Julia has raised in excess of £500 by organizing coffee mornings, making and selling craft items, and making and selling greetings cards. Dr. Roy Lamb made the presentation at the Annual Social.

Iris Lewis of Harefield Far, near Stroud was an accomplished musician, a witty and entertaining speaker and a lovely lady. The photo shows Iris at the Cheese and Wine party when she was presented with the ‘Doreen Roberts Award’ for outstanding service to the Gloucestershire Chest Fund.  Her fund raising efforts over a number of years has helped to make Doreen Roberts “Impossible Dream” a reality. Inset as she was when she served in the ATS.  Sadly, she passed away shortly after.  She will be dearly missed.
